5 Reasons to Attend a Live Sporting Event

By Lorena Roberts on June 8, 2017

If you’re a sports nut, you probably have a designated spot on your couch where you can see every angle of your TV perfectly. Maybe it’s a full-sized couch with cup holders and your favorite candy stuffed between the cushions. Maybe it’s an easy chair with a fully stocked mini-fridge beside of it. Maybe it’s a bar stool, perfectly positioned in your “man cave” or “ladies lounge” where you love to chill out on any given afternoon and enjoy your televised sports.

But, if you’re a sports nut, you also know how exciting and rewarding it is to attend a live game. In the flesh. Where you can basically smell the sweat of the players.

Personally, I haven’t been to a lot of live sporting events, but my favorite ones to attend are live baseball games. I’ll tell you why it’s so much better to watch baseball live than at home in your easy chair.

1. The tasties

I don’t know if your cabinets have stadium peanuts and corn dogs for days, but I sure don’t. One of the best parts of going to live sporting events is the food!

Overpriced? Maybe. Delicious? Absolutely.

If you’ve been craving something salty or deep fried, the place to get it is the ballpark. So dig into your wallet and pull out that crisp $20 bill you’ve been saving for just this reason. When you slide that corn dog into your drooling mouth, you’ll be glad you put on pants for this.

2. People watching

What might be just as entertaining as watching the actual game is watching the fans. It never fails. Every time I attend a sporting event, there’s always some funny kid to watch (or a fighting couple) that can keep me entertained when the game gets slow.

If you don’t go to live sporting events because you don’t like people, well, this is the perfect reason to go anyway. People watching can be just as (if not more than) entertaining as the game.

3. Overall experience

Sitting at home and watching the game just isn’t anything like being there in person. Listening to the announcer, buying concessions, and singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” is totally worth the drive, parking, and buying the ticket.

Usually, especially at college sporting events, there are freebies that are given away to the first so many people to show up. If you’re into free swag, this is the place to be.

4. Making comrades

Supporting your team and being a part of something is the biggest part of going to a live game. You’ll meet fans you didn’t know before. You’ll bond over losing your voice and chanting for your team. If you’re looking to make some new friends — this is the place to do it!

5. Be a part of history

There’s always the possibility that a sporting event is going to make history. There’s always a chance that something miraculous is going to happen. Where do you want to be when history is being made? At home? Nah, I didn’t think so.
